Why Choose Temple Choice Dental for Veneers?

What Are Dental Veneers?

A veneer is an ultra-thin sheath of dental-grade porcelain that’s cemented to the front-facing portion of a tooth. It’s designed to mask almost any imperfection under a flawless appearance. Since each restoration is custom-made to blend seamlessly with your remaining teeth, no one will even notice them once they’re in place!

While veneers can be made from porcelain, cheaper versions tend to be made from acrylic to make them affordable. It’s also common to cover a single tooth with a veneer to hide certain problems. During your initial consultation with our team, we’ll explain which dental imperfections can be addressed with this treatment.

The Process of Getting Veneers

The first step on your journey towards a new smile is a consultation with our team at Temple Choice Dental. We’ll perform a thorough oral examination, review your medical history, and inquire about your goals to determine whether or not this service is right for you. Based on our findings, we’ll begin working on a custom treatment plan to help you get your desired results.

In preparation for veneer placement, a tiny amount of enamel will need to be removed from your teeth. Before the procedure begins, we’ll numb your mouth thoroughly to ensure you’re completely comfortable. Once this step is done, we’ll take impressions and use them to create your restorations.

It takes about two weeks for your permanent veneers to be made. In the meantime, you’ll receive temporary ones to keep your smile safe. You’ll return to the office once your veneers are ready and we’ll permanently bond them into place. After making final adjustments, you’ll be ready to put your smile to use that same day!

Veneer FAQs

Is There Anything I Can’t Eat with Veneers?

Just like your natural teeth, veneers are not indestructible. So, it’s important that you avoid foods that increase the risk of them chipping or cracking, like hard pretzels, candy canes, peanut brittle, and raw almonds. Instead, focus on adding foods to your diet that are delicious, nutrient-dense, and smile-friendly, like cooked carrots, plain yogurt, oatmeal, and sugar-free pudding.

Important note: Although your veneers are stain-resistant, your teeth aren’t. For that reason, we recommend limiting your intake of dark-colored foods as well, such as blackberries, BBQ sauce, and marinara sauce.

Do Veneers Give You a Lisp?

This is a common concern among patients who are considering veneers. However, they are only about the width of a fingernail, so they won’t feel bulky or obtrusive in any way. Plus, if you do notice that the “s” and “v” sounds are a little more difficult at first, don’t worry – the change to your speaking pattern is only temporary. The more you practice, the shorter the adjustment period will be!

How Long Do Veneers Last?

Veneers are known for lasting for upwards of 20 years (that’s one of the many reasons they are so popular!). It’s important to note, however, that yours will only last if you take good care of them. That means brushing, flossing, and rinsing with mouthwash consistently as well as avoiding crunchy foods, wearing a nightguard if you grind your teeth, and quitting unhealthy habits, like smoking.

How Many Veneers Will I Need?

If one of your teeth has a noticeable chip, then you may only need one veneer. If you want a picture-perfect smile and completely new look, then you may need as many as 12. Ultimately, how many you need depends largely on the imperfections you’re looking to fix and what you want the final result to look like!

Is There Anyone Who Shouldn’t Get Veneers?

Actually, yes. For example, if you want a straight smile, but your teeth are severely rotated out of position, then veneers are not the ideal cosmetic dental treatment for you. That’s why your initial consultation at our Temple dental office is so important: we need to learn all about your dental needs and smile goals! Once we do, we can review the treatment options available and help you determine which one is best for you.

How Can I Reduce the Cost of Veneers?

Although dental insurance providers don’t typically cover cosmetic dentistry, there are a few exceptions. So, don’t just assume you don’t have any benefits – you might be surprised. We’d be happy to take a look at your plan to help you maximize your coverage as well!

If you don’t have dental insurance, then consider CareCredit! This trusted third-party financier allows you to space out the cost of your care into smaller, monthly installments that work with your budget.
